Initially I thought I was doing okay but all of a sudden I seemed to be experiencing one problem after the other, nothing seemed to work. In fact I have not done much for a while due to my frustrations and discouragement. Of course I will go back to it but I needed a break. But thanks to the communication system and how it has been set up I can see it will be very hard to give up due to the support and encouragement I am receiving from Judy, Ruth and other participants such as Sue and Tessa. Anyway iIwill try and follow all the instructions given and I am hoping I will make some progress. Having said that I still keep having loads of ideas I hope they will be possible when I eventually get to understand the computer and the applications. By the way I actually called my brother on saturday using skype and decided to turn the camera on. I had the account activated previously but was not bothered to use it and I didn’t have a web cam but with this computer it was fun, unfortunately because he didn’t have his webcam on, I could’t see him but he could see me. He is an ICT technician working in a school and his wife is a teacher working in South East, they were so impressed by what our borough is doing and by the Macbook. But I must say when he came to see me with another brother of mine who is into computers as well, they found using the Mac book challenging and that made me feel a little better and the affirmation that the computer just needs getting used to.

Keep up the good work! Mostly what I have been doing is spending time playing around. I don’t really have anything yet that is actually usable at present with a class, but I’m getting ideas and I’m getting used to the programs so when I decide what to do I’ve got the skills at my fingertips. So U think playing around with Skype and the webcam stuff is the best idea at the moment, and every day have a go at something else for half an hour, and see what you can come up with! And keep in touch!

It can take a time to get used to something new. Hang in there because the rewards will be great please add to the blog http://applemacs.edublogs.org to record your experiences.

I find Macs scary too! I’ve been doing a lot more on the PC side, as I’m used to them, and dipping into the Mac side when I’m feeling confident (and to play with Comic Life which i love!) I also like the way when you download photos and videos together from the camera, it seems to understand what they all are, whereas i found on my home PC in Windows, it got confused and the videos wouldn’t play.

Thanks for your comment on my mind map in Flickr! What i’ve done’s not that complicated – it’s just colourful! If you use the quickstart tutorial in the programme, it guides you thorugh the key functions – i did that, but whereas it asks you to do a tedious meeting plan or something similar, i just did my own for the programme – so i did the things it asked, but just with my own content. I think i then went into the help index and looked to see if there was anything else i definitely wanted to know right away, and read a couple of those. Exporting is a good one to read, so you can see how to move from mind map to word doc – really useful for students planning essays i reckon.

Good luck! Post whatever you do when you’ve done it!
